Kobe Bryant、Tim Duncan相繼退役，「真理」Paul Pierce則是陷入長考，8日洛杉磯快艇總教練Doc Rivers表示他確實還沒決定，但相信他會再戰江湖。
「某天我跟他聊過，這個夏天他並不好過，我認為他有這個權利（退休），我真的這麼想。」Rivers說。
已經征戰18個球季的Pierce，上季在快艇出賽68場，平均上場超過18分鐘，但只貢獻6.1分，就Rivers認識的真理，他不會想這樣告別。
「上個球季，Paul沒有拿出最佳表現，我不認為他會想這樣離開，所以我想這就是他努力訓練的原因，但他還是有可能隨時改變心意，我們只能等待。」Rivers說。
Rivers預計這個星期再與Pierce會談，但他預料在訓練營名單截止前是不會得到答案的，「我跟他說，如果訓練營我看到了你，就代表你會打喔。」
儘管上季Pierce狀態老化，曾見證他拿下生涯首座總冠軍的Rivers相信仍有回春可能，「如果球員真的不行了，我會直接跟他們說，但我認為Paul還能打。」
「我不知道極限在哪，但他還是很出色，我一直認為球員會知道自己是不是該退休了。」Rivers說。
